Why I Started Off 2021 Celebrating And You Should Too!

Published about 3 years ago • 4 min read

Hey Reader,

Like many people, I let out a huge sigh of relief when 2020 ticked over into 2021 … and then I immediately started holding my breath again! For a few weeks there (and even still, somewhat, now) it felt like 2021 was just 2020 but with bangs and not the cute kind.

In light of all of that, a lot of people I know came into the new year feeling really hesitant and anxious, even low key and a still a bit overwhelmed. Almost like they were afraid to be happy about anything, just in case it got taken away again.

And let’s be clear: I really get it. There’s been so much insanity going on, it can feel sort of misaligned to celebrate the start of a new year. After all, isn’t it weird to be celebrating when we’re still living through a new historical and at times horrifying event every day?

But I came into the year literally popping champagne and I think you should be celebrating too— keep readying to hear why. Yep - by the way, this is my first “newsletter” - for now we’re calling it Vibes with Vanessa for now, so give it a read and even better, a share!

Why I Started Off 2021 Celebrating … And Why I Want You To Join Me!

Let’s get the elephant in the room out of the way: 2020 was a lot. And 2021 hasn’t been all that much easier, at least so far. And this has pretty much everyone I know coming into the year very subdued.

Me? I went the opposite direction.

I came into 2021 literally popping champagne, and immediately followed up the new year with an amazing experience I created called TheTwo-Day Soirée, where I got some of my favorite friends and a few of their friends and we gathered together and we all talked about so many ways to make life more awesome. We got a mega-dose of inspiration, created meaningful connections, asked and pondered some deep questions, and started to take action towards the lives we wanted to create. It was seriously so much fun — I’m already excited about throwing the next one and every single one of the people who joined us said they came out and they walked away feeling like “a weight had been lifted from their shoulders and their hearts had been filled back up.” They reminded me that not all events are created equally and I have the skills to gather people and create meaningful connections, sprinkled with some magic.

This gathering was super powerful … but it almost never happened.

Because as amazing as things were on the front end, the Soirée itself was actually born out of a really challenging time, when I was in a place of pain and sadness. Like so many other people, I was in a really challenging spot for the last few months of the last year. A combination of some difficult personal circumstances and business ups and downs and it all just had me distracted, overwhelmed, and worried.

And, as I sat with those challenges, I realized I had two choices: go even deeper into that pain and frustration, or to choose instead to do what I do best, to bring people together, and move through it together.

I had this deep sense that I needed to gather people around me, not just because it’s fun and great to hang out with your friends and hopefully meet a few new ones, but because we all need the magic that happens in connection and community. And — for maybe the first time ever — I realized that my work and my gifts had to be the main focus for us to come together.

You see, I’ve played second fiddle for a long time.

I love helping other people, and I’ve done that for years. Yep, years! I’ve worked as a best-kept-secret, the right-hand woman, trusted advisor, organizer, and event planner. And don’t get me wrong, that’s so much fun, and a place that I thrive and I’ll keep doing it until I die. But, what I realized in making the decision to put on the Soirée (rather than just helping someone else put on their event) was that the belief I have that everybody’s work matters, and that we all genuinely need to share that with the world, well, that applies to me too.

So that's why in 2021, I'm celebrating — I'm celebrating me, you, and us!

Because, Friend, I get your journey. I get your struggles and fear, insecurities and overwhelm and confusion. Sometimes just not even knowing where to start, but knowing you are yearning for a change. Been there. Still there sometimes. Really, really good at helping other people move through that kind of thing. I love being that safe and supportive space to talk through whatever you’ve got going on, make a plan for what you want and need to do next, and then walk with you every single step of the way to make sure that actually happens. That’s right, I can help you make change and take action - that’s what I want to be known for this year, this unknown year of 2021, still full of uncertainty, but a reminder we can’t and won’t and don’t have to do any of it alone.

Interested in having me support you on your journey? Learn more about how I can lead you in making your biggest dreams come true, let’s schedule an exploration call and together, work to make your things happen.

Thanks for tuning in to the first edition of Vibes with Vanessa. Stay awesome. Be kind. Seriously, let’s connect soon.

Love and hugs,

Vanessa

Hey there friends - It's your good old friend Vanessa here 🙋🏼♀️ - I probably haven't been "officially" in your Inbox recently... I made a valiant effort back to try to do so back in 2021 with the help of my Cousin Dylann - but then you know, that whole pandemic thing was going on and if you've followed me at all on my social - my life had some huge changes! More on that later... But here's the deal - I am back working on some really cool things, some in-person and virtual events and so are my...

Why helping you with your purpose is the best legacy I can leave... When I was growing up amidst the evergreens of a small town in Oregon, my family always went camping. Most people took a variety of vacations, but we always went camping. We camped in the woods, we camped in the backyard, we camped on the porch. Hell, my parents still put their bed outside on their balcony on warm nights during the summertime to sleep under the stars - so we’ve always been a big outdoors-loving and sleeping...
